Viagra tablets, the accidental discovery by a group of pharmaceutical chemists working at Pfizer's Sandwich, Kent, research facility in England, were found to be a revelation since becoming approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration as the first oral treatment for erectile dysfunction in 1998.
Available on the internet – a preferred choice for a great number of those who want to buy Viagra cheap online – cheap Viagra have enjoyed massive popularity because of their impact on the erectile dysfunction treatment.
Viagra tablets are not only hogging the headlines because of their enormous success in the treatment of millions of men suffering from erectile dysfunction, they are often in the news because of their use in some ad hoc medical functions.
A classic case scenario where Viagra tablets in the UK have served such improvised function is the story of Lewis Goodfellow, an infant born with a faulty lung that was not supplying enough oxygen to the infant’s bloodstream. According to the doctors in the Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where Lewis had been born, as a last ditch effort to save Lewis’s life, they had decided to administer Sildenafil Citrate, the generic name for real Viagra tablets, on the baby. The doctors’ decision, according to them, had been informed by the knowledge that Sildenafil Citrate was effective in opening up the blood vessels, which could then allow for more oxygen to be captured and taken to every part of the body.
To say the least, Viagra tablets saved the baby’s life was saved.
Similarly, reports emanating from two studies, if they are anything to be believed, could fuel public interest in wanting to buy Viagra online with next day delivery, not for their erectile problems but for their high blood pressure.
According to the report, two studies conducted in San Francisco on the 19th of May showed the susceptibility of men with high blood to having erectile dysfunction and also, that Viagra tablets could improve a man’s heart.
Daniel T. Lackland, MD., professor of epidemiology and medicine at the University of South Carolina in Charleston, disclosed that middle-aged and older men were at a higher risk of having erectile dysfunction, and that there is the propensity for this group of men to lose control of their blood pressure.
Lackland added further that the studies were able to show the importance for men suffering from ED to check their blood pressure and also, the need for their blood pressure to be controlled.
Treating only erectile dysfunction could improve aortic stiffness, the studies also showed.
In reporting their findings, Greek researchers, at the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting and Exposition of the American Society of Hypertension, showed that, when used to treat impotent men who have high blood pressure, Viagra tablets online could reduce blood vessels stiffness, a risk factor for heart diseases.
About 65 million of American citizens, it has been statistically proved, have high blood pressure, a risk factor for kidney disease, heart disease and stroke. Also, the same statistics showed that about 20 million American men have some degrees of erectile dysfunction.
What is the connection between high blood pressure and Erectile Dysfunction?
Not only are blood pressure and ED connected, Greek researchers believed, the risk of ED for men with high blood pressure is more than twice as high for men with normal blood pressure.
Michael Doumas, one of the researchers from the fourth department of internal medicine at the University of Athens in Greece, said they were able to determine that men with high blood pressure have a greater chance of being at risk for or having erectile dysfunction.

When a man is impotent, the man is said to be suffering from a condition that renders him unable to have an erection that is considered rigid enough for sexual penetration. Commonly referred to as erectile dysfunction in medicine, impotence is distinct from other sexual dysfunctions, such as premature ejaculation, loss of libido, or absence of orgasm, in that penile erection may be attained in all these cases. ED is a common problem whose incidence increases with age.
It is believed to be on the rise, especially among men whose life span is on the increase. According to statistics, some 10 to 15 million men are thought to be impotent in the US. Of this number of impotent men, less than 4 percent of the male between the ages of 30 and 45 are affected, about 7 percent of male between the ages of 45 and 55 years are affected, about 25 percent affected at 65, and about 75 percent of male from 80 years and above are affected.
Depending on the time of onset, impotence is classified as either primary or secondary. The primary impotence could occur when there is a faulty genital, as found in eunuchoid gigantism for example, while secondary impotence occurs when there is a fundamental inability to attain erection from adolescence or during adulthood, and this is usually after a period of normal ability to have an erection.
In former times, the treatment of both primary and secondary erectile dysfunction used to involve the use of drugs administered through the topical route, the oral route, etc., though they were seldom approved for use as prescription drugs by physicians because of the little knowledge about their interactions with other drugs and side effects.
In 1998, however, a new drug, Sildenafil Citrate brought about a revolution in the treatment of erectile dysfunction when it became the first drug to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration as the first oral treatment for the condition.
Viagra tablets, are a drug which works only when a man is sexually aroused, is an effective inhibitor of the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) enzyme, which degrades cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). The inhibition of the enzyme, occurring simultaneously with the release of nitric oxide (NO) into the corpus cavernosum of the penis, allows for the increased level of cGMP and the activation of the NO/cGMP pathway which enables vasodilation, that is the relaxation of the smooth muscles.
A key reaction is the relaxation of the smooth muscles which allows for the flow of blood into the corpus cavernosum and the concomitant lengthening of the penis and rigidity.
The success story of sildenafil citrate, the generic name of Viagra, as an effective ED treatment of choice is such that millions of men, the world over, now see the drug as a household name since making its debut more than ten years ago.
