Viagra aside, aphrodisiacs from nature are sought out the world over. From indigenous rain forest communities to the high tech modern western world, everybody has their idea of what sets up the libido for a steamy night.

Having said that, bananas do have a high concentration of potassium and Vitamin B, both necessary for the adequate production of sex hormones.
On the other side of the coin, anything 'egg' shaped is supposed to aid women's fertility, this not necessarily going hand in hand with libido. Totally unrelated, are mushrooms. There is something in mushrooms that today's nutritionists claim will assist fertility and after a month of my daughters raw mushroom cravings, I now have a grandson!
Avocados are also said to increase libido. It can be no accident that the Aztecs called them 'Ahuacuatl' or 'testicle tree'.
Scientific studies can very rarely find any concrete proof that any food would serve that much purpose in stimulating libido. They believe it is more of a psychological result, mind over matter, type of effect.
The few they would agree with are the ones that irritate the urinary tract on excretion. Strange, but when my urinary tract is irritated the last thing to be stimulated is libido!
Illegal drugs and alcohol do have an effect on sexual intentions. This is purely because they both lower inhibitions, borne out by the fact that so many STD's and unwanted pregnancies are the result of drink or drug fuelled nights.
Of course, if illegal drugs are not your thing, large doses of nutmeg are supposed to have a hallucinogenic effect on women and their libido. So, if you're concerned about your manhood, don't worry, just serve a candlelit meal with copious amounts of nutmeg and she's sure to be impressed.
Mustard is meant to be a stimulant of sexual organs – maybe if you applied it externally a reaction would be induced but I can't say it's ever done anything for me via ingestion.

(Warning: reading my column may cause drowsiness, fatigue, and severe nausea. But it definitely won’t cause a four-hour erection.)
Seems like the advertising industry has become addicted to drugs. The marketing of drugs, that is. But slowly, the intervention is being staged.
A few weeks ago, a Viagra spot (the one featuring the creepy blue-horned horndog) was pulled off the air because the spot didn’t mention side effects. And recently Vioxx, an arthritis drug with a $160 million ad budget, was pulled off the shelves entirely because apparently, its side effects included an increased risk of heart attacks and death.
Pharmaceutical advertising is a huge niche—spending on direct-to-consumer ads alone is over $3 billion a year. It’s perhaps the highest growth sector of the advertising and marketing business.
So is the ad industry truly the nation’s pusherman?
We all know that from a creative perspective, most drug ads are bad to the point of self-parody. You’ve seen the spots—montages of blue skies, meadows, happy old couples and a voiceover reeling off a list of scary side effects. Even The One Club had to create a separate award show for pharmaceutical ads—probably because the creative bar isn’t as high as it is for other types of clients, but the awards (and the entry fees that come along with them) are equally as alluring.
Now, I’m not suggesting pharmaceutical companies are evil. They’re not—at least not any more evil than any other industry. Simply put, modern living has given us more of everything—including more sickness, and more ways to treat that sickness. So are we living longer because of more drugs? Or do we need more drugs because we’re living longer?
I wonder if the ad industry is helping drug makers create false demand, and in this case, really messing with people’s lives. I’d like to think that working on medical services clients would bring some inner satisfaction, at least more so than working on a car dealer account.
Once, I wrote some ads for a company that made medical devices. As I read through the marketing objectives, I started thinking that there was an altruism to the work, and that I was helping people live better lives. But at the same time, I was helping a company suck up to doctors in order to become the “partner” of choice, to the exclusion of other alternative treatments.
Which begs the question: Do doctors share the responsibility for this mess? I never thought it was my job to ask my doctor about a certain drug. I’ve always assumed it was my doctor’s job to tell me about one if I needed it.
Now, however, I’m not inclined to believe what a doctor tells me any more than I’m inclined to believe what an advertisement tells me. All you have to do is take a look around any doctor’s office. The pens, the prescription notepads, the clock on the wall—they’re all emblazoned with the logo of the drug du jour. And that’s only what you see. You don’t see the stacks of trial samples in the closet. Or the free trips, dinners and other kickbacks doctors get in consideration for recommending the drugs and writing the prescriptions.
What’s dangerous is when the advertising morphs into a professional opinion: Say you go to a doctor for medical services, yet your diagnosis and the doctor’s recommended treatment are influenced by an advertiser. How would you know? We trust that years of medical school and training won’t be compromised by an all-expenses paid weekend trip to a golf resort.
It doesn’t matter what industries your clients are in; you can use the drug industry as example of how far marketing can, and does, go to reach consumers from every vantage point. Because the budgets are so large, every media tactic possible is used to promote prescription drugs. Marketing directors in other industries must be insanely jealous. You simply can’t ignore the sheer amount of branding. It’s everywhere.
Not only is the marketing everywhere, sometimes it’s not easy to spot. One of the hallmarks of advertising has always been that you could spot it—you knew what was an ad and what wasn’t. Now of course, it’s fashionable to advertise in more stealthy ways—so you don’t know a message is actually an ad. Which could be relatively innocent if you’re a video game maker, but with pharmaceutical marketing, the stakes are obviously higher.
In an industry where clients are shrinking their budgets, drug advertising is a virtual Brinks truck full of greenbacks dumped at an agency’s front door. And very few agencies would turn that kind of business away—even ones that would turn away tobacco clients (another legal drug, by the way, but one that many agencies proudly shun.)
Don’t count on the government to regulate drug ads out of existence, either. The making and marketing of prescription drugs is extremely profitable, and the ad business is going have to live with it.
I don’t know about you, but it makes me feel a little queasy.

We have all had this experience. You log into your email account and discover that you have some new messages. Fervent with anticipation, you open your inbox, only to find nothing but solicitations and spam.
Most of the spam that I get in my inbox is abhorrent, but I still like to look at it because some of it is quite entertaining. My favorites include subjects such as 95% discounts on Canadian Viagra, quotes for 80 year mortgages, and ads for practically every sort of pornographic web site on the net.
Those of you familiar with spam have probably noticed that the name of the sender that appears next to the message subject is usually either a strange email address or a bizarre name. Spammers do this because obviously they do not want to reveal their real email address or name. They have developed programs that can actually mutate their email address so that the recipient will not be able to track where the email came from.
So, how did these freaks get your email address in the first place? One of the ways is through opt-in email. At one time or another, we have all subscribed to or ordered something online. In doing so, as part of the subscription or service that you signed up for, you may have inadvertently or unknowingly agreed to receive offers via email from that company in the future. As a result, they begin to send you email. This is legal as long as the company provides you with a way to unsubscribe from their mailing list.
However, the most nefarious email marketers do not provide you with a way to be removed from their mailing list. To make matters worse, they will often sell your email address and any other information you submitted to them to hundreds of other companies who are looking for mailing lists. Before you know it, your email address has been circulated far and wide to almost every online business imaginable.
There are other methods that spammers will employ to get their grimy hands on your email address. Sometimes what they do is once they have purchased a list of email addresses from someone else, they will then send a joke or an interesting cartoon to everyone on the list and ask that you forward it along to all your friends and relatives. Once you forward the message, the spammer actually has a program that can copy the list of addresses that the message has been forwarded to and send it back to him or her. So now, that person not only has your email address, but also has the email address of every one of your friends and relatives. Using this tactic, clever email marketers can grow their list exponentially.
Another popular technique is something called harvesting. Harvesting is quickly becoming the most powerful, sophisticated, and most useful method for grabbing thousands or even millions of email addresses almost instantaneously. This is accomplished by writing a simple software program that searches through every web site listed on a search engine for a certain keyword, and then quickly scanning through each web site and copying any and all email addresses that are posted there and then sending them back to the spammer. An example of harvesting would be a program written to scan every website listed on Google for a certain keyword, such as mortgage brokers, and then copying every email address that is found on the various web sites that come up in the search, and emailing the entire list back to the person doing the harvesting. In this manner, a person could build a list containing thousands of email addresses of mortgage brokers in less than an hour.
Harvesting has become a legal quandary, because spammers feel that it is permissible to harvest email addresses that are posted on public websites because, in their opinion, if someone has posted their email address for all to see, then other people have the right to contact that person and ask them questions or send them offers. However, web sites where email addresses are posted have struck back with threats of legal action against anyone that copies addresses and uses them for the purpose of building mailing lists or sending marketing offers. Unfortunately, these web sites really have no way to block this email theft, and it is becoming more rampant every day.
Spamming and email marketing is here to stay, as it is nearly impossible to regulate or prohibit. Both big businesses and small businesses have a strong incentive to send bulk email, because it does not cost anything, and helps them increase their business. Sending regular mail or hiring telemarketers is infinitely more costly. Also, people tend to discard solicitations sent to them in the regular mail very quickly, and telemarketers are usually hung up on. As a result, most companies favor sending massive amounts of email versus direct mail or cold calling. So, you should not expect your inbox to be any less crammed with spam anytime soon.

I receive approximately 5,000 emails containing spam each and every day. Well, maybe not that many, but it sure seems like it. Spam is spiraling out of control and shows no signs of stopping. The question is, where does spam come from, and can you do anything about it?

If you take nitroglycerin and Viagra together, the increased nitric oxide plus the blocking of PDE5 can lead to problems.
Other problems with Viagra can include little things like headaches (the drug, as a side effect in some men, opens up arteries in the brain's lining and causes excess pressure) and more serious conditions, like heart attacks. The possibility of heart attacks is one reason why Viagra is a prescription drug rather than an over-the-counter drug like aspirin. A doctor needs to understand your medical history and make sure that Viagra won’t cause a heart attack. Occasional patients who take Viagra get painful, long-lasting erections and have to see a doctor to solve the problem.
Finally, there is some concern that some men, especially younger men who take Viagra recreationally and who don’t really need it for physical reasons, may end up with a dependency on the drug. That is, they may become unable to maintain an erection without taking Viagra.
Precautions while Taking Viagra
Caution is of utmost importance in patients with drug allergies, or if they have:
- Heart disease or heart rhythm
- Recently had a heart attack, stroke, or heart rhythm disorder
- Congestive heart failure
- High or low blood pressure
- Coronary artery, liver, or kidney disease
- Blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia
- Bleeding disorder such as hemophilia
- Stomach ulcer
- Retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye)
- Physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease); and /or
- You have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Viagra. Before taking Viagra, tell your doctor about all other medications you use for erectile dysfunction, or if you are using any of the following medications:
- Bosentan
- Warfarin (a blood thinner)
- Cimetidine
- Antibiotic (erythromycin)
- Doxazosin, prazosin or Terazosin
- HIV medicines
- Antifungal medication
- Carbamazepine, phenobarbital or phenytoin; and/or
- Rifampin or Rifabutin
Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.
